Tobías, a German national (1976), comes from a watchmaking tradition and learned the trade from his father. He studied economics in Dresden, his hometown. In 2018, Tobias, together with a partner, took over his father's company, Uhrentecnik (Watchmaking Technology). Married to a Colombian woman, he has visited Colombia frequently. Between 2009 and 2014, he organised multiple cultural tourism trips for Germans, which included stays in Mompox. His company has restored more than 600 tower clocks and bell towers.
In 2012, he travelled to Mompox with his parents. During a visit to the Santa Bárbara clock, he had the opportunity to adjust it to keep it working and showed a young man from Mompox how to maintain it.
El Boga Residence The project to restore the clocks of Mompox is made possible thanks to the support of several organisations, including the Swisscontact Foundation and the SEC (Senior Expert Consultant) programme, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, and El Boga.
During his stay, Tobías, with the support of Momposino master Luis Echavez and students, restored the San Carlos clock (Town Hall) and made progress on the restoration of the San Francisco tower clock.
